On Monday the site Neowin reported that several emails from Hotmail with their respective passwords had been published online and today BBC News is reporting that Google have confirmed the phishing attack. “BBC News has seen two lists that detail more than 30,000 names and passwords from e-mail providers, including Yahoo and AOL, that were posted online.”

According to Microsoft Spokesperson :-
"Over the weekend Microsoft learned that several thousand Windows Live Hotmail customer’s credentials were exposed on a third-party site due to a likely phishing scheme. Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers. As part of that investigation, we determined that this was not a breach of internal Microsoft data and initiated our standard process of working to help customers regain control of their accounts. "

Microsoft has confirmed the list was authentic, worked to get it taken down and deactivated the accounts. If your account was affected you can fill out this form to reclaim account access.
